Mississippi Burning (1988)

[Movie 81 / Day 49]

Gene Hackman and Willem Dafoe are two FBI agents with very different personalities that head the investigation into the disappearance of three voting rights activists from a small town in Mississippi.

Before long, they're fighting with the KKK and struggling to make a case in a town where nobody wants to speak out.

It's a pretty good film and well acted.

My rating: 7.4 / 10

Cliffhanger (1993)

[Movie 65 / Day 38]

Silly, yet enjoyable, Sly Stallone actioner set in the mountains. Sly is a rescue climber who, after an accident that kills his best friends girlfriend, stops climbing. He is drawn back into it though when a gang of bad guys steals a lot of money which ends up spread across a mountain top and then forces the rescue service workers to help them find it.

Typical Stallone fair of the era, although it had far more blood and swearing in it than I remembered. It's fun, although nothing amazing. Some of the aerial mountain shots look fantastic in HD though, and the surround sound really surprised me - it was really well done in several scenes, with bullets whipping past my ears.
