The Terminal (2004)

[Movie 29 / Day 15]

Tom Hanks plays a man from Eastern Europe who is visiting New York. Unfortunately, while he's flying, a coup is staged in his country meaning that when he lands, both his passport and his visa are invalid - the US officials can't let him into the States, but they also can't send him back to his own country.

All they can do is put him in the international departure lounge and wait for him to try and escape so he can be arrested and will become someone else's problem. Problem is, he doesn't try to escape. He was told to wait, so wait he will.

Loosely based on a true story, this Steven Spielberg movie is an out-and-out feel-good flick - and while it's a bit sickly sweet in places, it does what it says on the tin, helped in no short measure by an excellent performance by Hanks, as well as the solid supporting cast.

My rating: 7.7 / 10
